Updates
A dated log of what has changed on ujem since development began in May 2026, newest first. ujem is built and run by one independent developer. Game counts below include only games that are still on the site — games that were later merged into a twin or retired are not counted.
October 2026
- 6 Oct — Rewrote the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service in all six languages: who runs the site, what is collected and why, how long it is kept, cookies, your rights, children, acceptable use and ownership. Added a Contact page and this Updates page, and the same footer links on every page.
- 6 Oct — Google Analytics now starts with cookies switched off for visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland until they make a choice. Game pages, the policy pages and the error page no longer load the advertising script.
- 6 Oct — Longer How to Play and Tips for 24 of the most-played games, in all six languages, with the real numbers from each game (speeds, timers, scoring and how the difficulty changes). A few old statements the games did not actually do were corrected along the way, and the shorter translated descriptions of 20 games now match the English.
- 6 Oct — Game pages: start and game-over cards no longer cover the How to Play and Tips text below the game, a swipe on that text now scrolls the page, and on a wide screen the text sits beside the game. The start card shows a one-line description with a link down to the rules. Seven arcade games (Snake, Meteor, Color Switch, Slice, Ski, Beat and Pole Vault) now wait for your first tap instead of starting, and ending, on their own.
- 6 Oct — Dots & Boxes: pressing Start right after the page opens no longer lets the computer draw two lines before your first move.
- 6 Oct — The Tap Speed guide now says correctly that two fingers landing at the same moment count as two taps.
- 1 Oct — Added AI-generated sprite artwork (made with Canva's AI image generator) to 138 games, so characters and items are drawn as pictures instead of emoji or plain shapes. Every game keeps its old drawing as a fallback.
- 1 Oct — Reviewed all 492 sprites for resemblance to famous characters. One was too close: the chasers in Chomp are now cats, and its text and guide were updated to match.
New games this month (1): Six Dots.
September 2026
- 29 Sep — 20 new strategy guides for the most-played games that did not have one yet, bringing the Guides section to 60.
- 25 Sep — Rechecked the computer opponent's difficulty steps in Hasami Shogi with the same time limit the game uses on a phone, so that each step up really plays stronger.
- 22 Sep — Removed Ziggurat, which turned out to be the same game as Color Cubes and Cube Hop.
- 19 Sep — Games that used to start on their own now open on a start screen with Start and Ranking buttons.
- 18 Sep — Checked every game (383 at the time) on a small 320×568 phone screen and fixed 8 whose controls were pushed off the screen. Pages that do not fit a phone held sideways can now be scrolled. Plays are now counted only after the first tap or key press (26 games were counting page views). All games were also checked with browser storage blocked.
- 17 Sep — Made physics and hit detection independent of frame rate in Bowling, Archery, Skeeball, Watermelon, Pinball and Plinko, so a faster or slower phone no longer changes the score. Skeeball's 100-point hole could not be reached before; now it can.
- 17 Sep — Pipe and Trace now end after 40 levels with a time budget per level, so their Hall of Fame no longer rewards simply playing longer. Sudoku's Hall of Fame now ranks the fastest single solve.
- 17 Sep — Rechecked colour contrast, touch-target size and accessible names for the 85 games added since mid-August. Fixed an installed app that would not start offline.
- 16 Sep — Checked every game offline with the local server actually switched off; a game visited for the first time now opens offline too.
- 12 Sep — The rules engines of 27 board and card games are now tested by automated self-play, and every game was run through random taps, swipes and key presses with crash, freeze and memory-leak checks. Leap and Hopper runs now always end, and Helix Drop's gap keeps narrowing after a score of 50.
- 2 Sep — Janggi, Shogi and Xiangqi gained draw rules (threefold repetition and 60 moves without a capture).
New games this month (125): Sumito, Fencer, Durak, Briscola, N-Back, Biathlon, Big Two, Symbol Code, Hammer Throw, Santorini, Oh Hell, Task Switch, Fanorona, Focus, Fillomino, Trails, Cricket Bat, Schnapsen, Tigers & Goats, Spit, Barbell, Creek, Flicker, Rowing, Sneak, Surakarta, Euchre, Word Ladder, Span, Open Court, Yavalath, Cabo, Strike Zone, Galaxies, Track, Kamisado, Mental Rotation, German Whist, First Serve, Tapa, Cephalopod, Stop Signal, Two Jars, Diving Final, Liar Cards, Trike, Upwind Leg, Sealed Bid, Ten Offers, Pit Window, Ripple Rooms, Five Fronts, Ninety-Nine, Sheepdog, Take-Off, Milk Run, The Fake Coin, Thermal, Breakaway, Deadline, Anti-Sway, Wash Day, Rendezvous, Slalom, Sevens, Missing Piece, Stitches, Ten Rivals, Halfpipe, Six Card Golf, Lasca, The Big One, Accordion, Logic Grid, Numberlink, Fast Break, Cassino, Gyges, One Lie, Sightline, Clays, Piquet, Yoté, Corral, Pitch, Whitewater, Dice Maze, Koi-Koi, Shobu, Oxer, Cube Net, Poker Squares, Crux, LITS, Jungle, Beleaguered Castle, Tower of London, Royal Game of Ur, Orienteering, Egyptian Ratscrew, Paper Folding, Relay, Truco, Fairway, Number Series, Heyawake, Scorpion Solitaire, Makruk (Thai Chess), Connect6, Bocce, Mind Walk, Tressette, Field Goal, Fox and Geese, Pişti, Running Total, Signpost, Javelin, Canfield Solitaire, Oware, Hasami Shogi, Matrix Logic, Straights, Hidoku, Sharp Eye.
August 2026
- 31 Aug — Game descriptions, how-to-play notes and tips moved back into the normal page below each game, where they can be read just by scrolling. 14 new strategy guides (40 in total).
- 22 Aug — Taps in Pole Vault, Stack and Beat are now judged at the moment you tap rather than at the next screen frame, and Reaction Time starts its clock only once the signal is actually on screen.
- 20 Aug — Added Texas Hold'em (heads-up against the computer) and Go 9×9, each with a guide. Stronger computer opponents in more than a dozen board games, including chess, Connect 4, tic-tac-toe, Reversi, Gomoku and Onitama.
- 16–21 Aug — Fixed low colour contrast across the site and in game controls, then checked all 313 games against the WCAG AA contrast level. Enlarged tap targets that were too small on a phone.
- 15 Aug — Old addresses of four retired games now redirect to their replacements instead of showing an error.
- 7 Aug — An RSS feed of newly added games.
- 6 Aug — 21 games that hid your personal best now show it. Several arcade games now keep getting harder so that every run ends.
- 3 Aug — Category filters on the home page, share images for links, and the site can be installed as an app. Merged 10 games that were duplicates of each other (their old addresses redirect) and renamed 18 games whose names belonged to other companies' trademarks.
New games this month (27): Word Search, Jigsaw, Mate in One, Killer Sudoku, Anagram, Quartet, Chalk, Golf Solitaire, Ludo, Spades, Xiangqi, Shogi, Janggi, Cribbage, Pocket Cube, Rule Hunt, Texas Hold'em, Go 9x9, International Draughts, Typing Test, Lift, Cube Hop, Dangle, Patch, Rays, Ascend, Scopa.
July 2026
- 26 Jul — Chess, Hangman and a word-guessing game joined the catalogue, which passed 300 games. A like button now appears on the game-over screen.
- 9 Jul — The Privacy Policy gained an advertising section in all six languages, and the home page gained a short written introduction.
- 2 Jul — Hall of Fame scores are now saved with a one-time token, which makes forged submissions harder, and promotion to the Major section also counts how many different players a game has. Fixed bugs found by automated play-throughs of 20 games, including a Cat Trap freeze after the first move and an unwinnable Slingshot.
- 1 Jul — Updates to the site no longer wipe the games you have saved for offline play.
New games this month (21): Yin-Yang, Perfect Circle, Four Traits, Order & Chaos, Aces Up, Sujiko, Teeko, Amazons, Neutron, Yukon Solitaire, Nesting Three, Nurikabe, Masyu, Norinori, Gin Rummy, Sphere Pyramid, Kurodoko, Corner Blocks, Word Guess, Chess, Hangman.
June 2026
- 27 Jun — 8 more strategy guides (24 in total).
- 17 Jun — Launched the Guides section with 16 strategy guides, and linked each game to its guide.
- 9 Jun — Every game and page got its own address in each of the six languages, for example /games/2048/ko/ for the Korean 2048 page.
- 2 Jun — All timed games switched to a real-time clock, so putting the phone to sleep or switching apps no longer pauses the timer.
