Speed Bingo

A called number flashes at the top — find it on your 5×5 card yourself and tap it before time runs out. Calls start at 1.5 seconds and shrink to 0.8; fast marks score more and wrong taps cost points. 60 calls.

How to play

A number is called at the top (for example G-52) with a shrinking timer bar. Find it on your 5×5 card and tap that cell before the bar runs out; the matching cell is not highlighted, so the search is up to you. Columns are B 1–15, I 16–30, N 31–45, G 46–60, O 61–75, and the centre is a FREE square, already marked.

A correct mark is worth 5 points plus up to 25 more for speed — the bonus is the share of the call's time still left on the bar when you tap. Each completed line (row, column or diagonal) adds 20. Tapping a cell that does not hold the called number costs 10 points (never below zero) and locks the card for 0.35 seconds. Calls whose number is not on your card simply time out — do nothing. The first call lasts 1.5 seconds and every call is a little shorter, down to 0.8 seconds for the 60th; the game ends after 60 calls.

Tips & strategy

Memorize column anchors before the first call. The B column has the smallest numbers, O the largest — when you hear a high number, your eyes should already be moving right. Spending the first two seconds before any call to scan your card top-to-bottom by column lets you respond to early calls reflexively instead of searching.

Lines are a bonus, not the plan. A finished row, column or diagonal adds 20 points, but each one needs five particular numbers to be called, and which numbers come up is out of your hands. The FREE centre lies on four lines (its row, its column and both diagonals), so the sixteen numbers on those lines are the likeliest to pay twice. Most of your score, though, is the speed points on every single mark, so never hesitate on a corner number to chase a line.

Don't tap blind on near-misses. A wrong tap costs 10 points and locks the card for 0.35 seconds — on the late calls that is half the time you have. If you are not sure whether 47 is in the G column you're scanning, keep looking until you have it rather than jabbing at a neighbour. And when the number is not on your card at all, the right move is to do nothing.

The timer bar tightens as the game goes on. The first call gives you 1.5 seconds and the last only 0.8, and recognising a number takes a couple of hundred milliseconds before your search even starts. Start scanning the moment the call appears — the B/I/N/G/O letter tells you the column, which is faster to use than the digits — and remember that the bar is also your score: tapping with the bar still half full earns about 18 points, tapping at the last moment barely 5.
