Tic-Tac-Toe

Beat the computer at Tic-Tac-Toe. Get three in a row.

How to play

You are X, the computer is O. You go first.

Tap any empty cell to place your X. The computer responds automatically.

Get three in a row โ€” horizontally, vertically, or diagonally โ€” to win. A win extends your streak. A draw keeps it. A loss ends the game.

Goal: longest winning streak.

Tips & strategy

Against a computer you only keep your streak alive by never losing, and the foundation is simple: take the centre on your first move whenever it is free, since it belongs to four of the eight winning lines. Corners are the next best squares because each sits on three lines; edges, on only two, are the weakest and rarely worth an early play.

Winning rather than drawing comes from creating a "fork" โ€” a single move that opens two threats at once, so your opponent can only block one and you complete the other. Always scan first for your own immediate three-in-a-row, then for a block you must make, and only then for a fork. Played carefully tic-tac-toe is a forced draw, so against a flawless opponent the safe play is to hold the centre, answer every threat, and never hand it a fork of its own.
