This is a probability game wearing a guessing-game costume. The number sits between 1 and 100, and the next one is always different, so the only honest question is how much room is left above versus below. Anything in the low teens or below should almost always be played as "higher", anything in the high eighties or above as "lower", and you will be right far more often than not.
The dangerous zone is the middle. A 50 really is close to a coin flip, so do not overthink it — just lean to whichever side has slightly more room and accept the occasional loss. Because one wrong call ends the streak, resist the temptation to "feel lucky" on a marginal number; the long-term winner is the player who quietly takes the better-than-even odds every single time.
