Meteor Tips: Survive Longer and Score More
Updated September 2026
In Meteor you control a turret in the centre of the screen. Tap anywhere and it turns and fires toward that point. Meteors drift in from every direction, large ones split into medium ones, medium ones split into small ones, and if any meteor reaches the turret, the game ends. Speed rises as your score grows, so managing threats matters more and more. This guide covers how to prioritise targets and keep the screen under control.
Know the meteor types
Large meteors take three hits and split into two medium meteors. Medium meteors take two hits and split into two small ones. Small meteors take a single hit and are worth the most points: 40, compared with 20 for medium and 10 for large. That means the real value of a large meteor comes from what it becomes. One large meteor destroyed fully is worth 10 + 2 × 20 + 4 × 40 = 210 points, but it also creates six extra targets along the way.
Shoot the closest threat first
Your only way to lose is a meteor touching the turret, so distance decides priority. Before thinking about points, find the meteor closest to you and shoot it. A small, fast meteor near the centre is more dangerous than a large one at the edge of the screen.
Get into the habit of scanning in a circle around the turret between shots. Meteors come from all directions, and the one you do not see is the one that ends your run.
Control the splits
When you destroy a large or medium meteor near the turret, its fragments appear close to you, often heading your way. Try to break big meteors while they are still far out, so the pieces have more distance to cover and you have time to deal with them. Breaking a large meteor right next to the turret can create an unmanageable swarm in an instant.
Aim where the meteor will be
Bullets travel fast but not instantly. For meteors crossing your line of fire at an angle, tap slightly ahead of them in their direction of travel. For meteors coming straight at you, tap right on them. Missed shots are not penalised directly, but every wasted tap is time a real threat is getting closer.
Pace yourself as it speeds up
Early on, the screen is calm and you can afford to break large meteors for points. Later, the speed rises and you need to switch to defence: keep the area around the turret clear and only go for bonus targets when nothing is close. Rapid tapping at random is tempting but less effective than steady, aimed shots at the right targets.
Common mistakes
The most frequent mistake is focusing on one large meteor while smaller ones slip in from the side. Another is breaking a large meteor right next to the turret and then being overwhelmed by the pieces. A third is tapping so fast that shots go toward meteors that are already destroyed. Each shot should have a purpose: a specific target and a specific reason. Players who tap deliberately tend to survive much longer than those who spray bullets, even though both styles feel similar in the moment.
A practical plan
- Scan all around the turret and shoot the closest meteor first.
- Break large meteors while they are far away.
- Lead moving targets by tapping slightly ahead of them.
- Clean up small fragments before starting on new large meteors.
- Switch from scoring to defence as the speed rises.
Meteor rewards calm prioritisation. Deal with the nearest danger, break the big rocks early, and the points from all those small fragments will add up on their own.
