Dodge Tips: Surviving the Falling Blocks

Updated September 2026

Dodge is about as simple as a game can get: you slide a player left and right at the bottom of the screen, red blocks fall from above, and touching one ends the run. Blocks fall faster and appear more often the longer you survive. Because the rules are so simple, the difference between a short run and a long one comes down to a few habits. This guide covers the positioning and reading skills that keep you alive longer.

Stay near the centre

The centre of the screen gives you the most options. From there you can dodge left or right with equal ease. Hugging an edge halves your escape routes, and a block falling at the edge with another falling beside it can trap you completely.

After each dodge, drift back toward the middle when it is safe. This habit alone prevents many of the late-game deaths where a player is pinned against a wall.

Read ahead, not straight up

Beginners watch the block directly above them. Better players watch the pattern coming down and look for the gap they will need in a second or two. Blocks fall in waves, and seeing the next wave early lets you move into position with time to spare.

Look for gaps that line up across several rows. If there is a safe column through the next two or three rows, move into it early and stay there.

Move early and move small

Last-moment dashes are risky, because the faster you move the harder it is to stop exactly where you want. Make small, early moves instead. Because you drag anywhere to move, keep your finger in a comfortable spot and use short, controlled slides.

Avoid moving when you do not need to. If the block above you is going to miss, staying still is the safest move.

Handling the late game

As the speed increases, reaction time becomes the limit. Reading further ahead gives you back that time. You will also see denser patterns where the only safe gap is narrow. In those moments, commit early to the gap and trust it rather than hesitating between two options.

Stay relaxed

Tension makes your movements jerky and less accurate. Hold the phone comfortably, keep your hand relaxed, and breathe. Long runs in Dodge often feel calm from the inside, even when the screen is busy.

Practise the right way

Short sessions with full attention improve your survival time faster than long sessions where your concentration fades. Play a handful of runs, notice what killed you each time, and adjust. Most deaths fall into a few categories: being pinned against an edge, reacting too late to a fast block, or over-correcting and sliding into a block beside the one you avoided. Once you know which one catches you most often, you can focus on fixing that habit specifically. For example, if edges are your problem, make a conscious effort to drift back to the centre after every single dodge until it becomes automatic.

A practical plan

  1. Start each run in the centre and return there between dodges.
  2. Watch the incoming pattern, not just the block above you.
  3. Find gaps that stay open over several rows and move into them early.
  4. Use small, controlled drags and do not move without a reason.
  5. In the late game, commit to one gap early instead of hesitating.

Dodge rewards calm anticipation. Keep your position central, read the falling pattern early, and your runs will last well beyond the point where the speed-up used to catch you.
