Centipede

Arcade classic. Slide your shooter along the bottom and blast the centipede as it winds down through a field of mushrooms — every hit splits it in two. Clear each wave and don't let it reach you. How far can you get?

How to play

Drag anywhere on the board to slide your shooter left and right along the bottom. It fires upward by itself, so you only steer.

A centipede marches in from the top, weaving left and right and dropping a row each time it hits the edge or a mushroom. Shoot a segment and it turns into a mushroom on the spot, splitting the centipede into two shorter ones that each keep crawling — so a long centipede quickly becomes a swarm of small fast ones. You can also shoot mushrooms to clear lanes and open up the field.

Clear every segment to finish the wave; the next wave brings a longer, faster centipede. The danger is simple: if any segment reaches the bottom row where you sit, the game ends. Keep splitting and clearing before it works its way down. You score for every segment and mushroom you destroy.

Tips & strategy

Aim for the middle of the centipede, not the head or tail. A hit in the centre creates two short centipedes instead of just shortening one, and short centipedes are far easier to finish off before they descend. Repeatedly halving is faster than nibbling from one end.

Manage the mushroom field — it is both terrain and threat. Every segment you shoot leaves a mushroom, and a dense patch makes the centipede zig-zag down much faster because it drops a row at each mushroom. If a column near you fills up, clear a lane through it so descending centipedes funnel into a predictable path you can camp.

Keep moving and lead your shots. Your fire is automatic and travels upward in a straight line, so position is everything: park under where a segment is heading, not where it is now. Sweeping side to side lets your stream of bullets rake across a whole row.

When a long centipede splits into several fast small ones, prioritise the lowest one — it is the one about to reach you. Let the higher pieces wind down while you delete the immediate threat, then work back up.
